Trading Standards in the Kingdom is warning us about a World Cup Lottery scam.
Letters are being sent out by fraudsters claiming people have won £725,000 in a recent FIFA lottery draw.
They ask consumers to complete a processing form, which involves passing on their bank details. Scam victims are then asked to make an upfront payment to enable them to enter the tender process for a prize that does not exist.
The letter also asks you to inform your 'claims agent' of any changes in your personal information or address as soon as possible. Your personal information is commonly used by fraudsters to commit identify fraud.
Alan Hamilton, Trading Standards Service Manager warns: "This is a variation of an old scam. Remember, if you have not bought a ticket you are not going to win. Do not reply and as with all similar scams do not give any bank or credit card details."
Trading Standards advise that if you receive a letter like the one described, not to respond and instead report it to Citizens Advice Consumer Helpline on 03454 04 05 06 or Action Fraud on 0300 123 2040 or at www.actionfraud.police.uk where you can also report a scam online.
