Wheelie Bin Fires in Kirkcaldy Damage Property

Police are appealing for information following a number of suspicious wheelie bin fires in Kirkcaldy.

The incidents occurred either late last night or in the early hours of this morning in Anderson Street, Aitken Street, Bank Street and Wishart Place.

The fires caused extensive damage to vehicles and buildings and, in one case, a gas supply to a house was damaged.

Officers have been conducting high visibility patrols in the area to provide community reassurance.

Detective Sergeant Craig Fraser from Kirkcaldy CID said: “Fortunately no one was seriously injured as a result of these reckless acts but it could have been very different.

“Two of the fires spread to nearby vehicles and buildings causing extensive damage and to a gas supply pipe of one of the properties. This has caused significant distress and expense to the home owners.

“We are appealing for any information regarding these incidents and in particular we would like to speak to two teenagers seen in the area around the time of the fires.

"The girl is described as being between 15 and 17 years old, of slim build with short dyed red hair. She was wearing jeans.

"The boy is a similar aged and was wearing grey shorts and a t-shirt.”

Anyone who has any information is asked to contact Police Scotland on 101 or anonymously through Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
