Three 15 year-old-boys have been charged in connection with Sunday afternoon's fire at the former Kitty's nightclub in Kirkcaldy.

Police confirmed this afternoon (Wednesday 6th September) they'd been arrested and charged in connection with wilful fire-raising at the now-derelict building.

As many as eight fire crews were at the scene on Hunter Street, including two height appliances. They were called there shortly before 3pm on Sunday.

Firefighters spent over 15 hours at the scene extinguishing the flames and left on Monday morning.

No one was injured.

All three teens will be reported to the Procurator Fiscal.

Sergeant Gordon Stanford said: “We know this incident has had a significant impact in Kirkcaldy and we would like to offer our thanks to the local community and partners in the emergency services for their assistance in this investigation.”

Sunday's fire gutted the former nightclub, which closed in 2019 and was once home to a Post Office. It's stayed vacant ever since.

Its roof has been destroyed and the spire that sat above the corner of the building also collapsed.

The blaze was the third at the building this year. Six appliances were called to a fire in March and two to another just last month.

Two crews returned to the site this morning just after 7.20am after smoke was spotted billowing from the building.

It comes after the building briefly reignited.

Road closures around Hunter street and Weymssfield remain in place.
