Preparation is well underway in north east Fife for the arrival of The Open in three weeks time.
Thousands of golf enthusiasts will descend on St Andrews from the 12th - 19th of July. Fife Council is urging people to plan their journey and to keep up-to-date with the latest travel news. Residents and businesses are also being reminded that they may be affected by changes to traffic regulations.
Angus Carmichael, service manager with the Council’s assets, transportation and environment service, said: “The Open Championship is a major event in the sporting calendar and attracts worldwide interest. It’s inevitable that the influx of visitors during the event will result in some local disruption and an increase in traffic throughout Fife and St Andrews in particular. However, along with our partners, we’re making every effort to minimise any inconvenience to residents and businesses.
“We’ve just finished contacting local residents and businesses directly affected by letter to give them some advice and let them know about any alternative arrangements.
“If you’re a resident and have any queries then please visit www.fifedirect.org.uk/theopen or call us on 03451 55 55 55 ext. 480208 or 450519 during office hours.
“We appreciate your co-operation and help during this busy event.”
