The Fife Alcohol and Drugs Partnership has been alerted to an increase in harm due to synthetic cannabis.
Synthetic cannabis sometimes known as 'Spice', is intended to mimic the effects of cannabis and is sometimes referred to as a 'legal high'.
Recent incidences have been reported in the UK where people have been hospitalised due to the use of synthetic cannabis, deaths have been reported within Europe due to its use.
There are concerns around the safety of the substance due to no quality control, users are largely unaware of what is being provided.
Dr Michael Armanyous is a Consultant Psychiatrist from NHS Fife Addiction Services, he says "symptoms that can occur as a result of taking synthetic cannabis can be life threatening and should not be ignored."
