Around 700 new businesses were launched in Fife last year, making the region one of the best in Scotland for startups.
There was an almost seventeen-percent increase in the number of new companies during the 4th quarter of last year.
The Kingdom is fifth out of Scotland's 32 local authorities according to Committee of Scottish Bankers figures.
Councillor Lesley Laird, Spokesperson for Economy & Planning said: “These figures give us an indication of business start-up activity in Fife based on business bank accounts opened.
"These statistics maintain Fife’s position as 5th out of Scotland’s 32 local authority areas for the number of start-ups last year. This is a great performance for Fife as we are reliant on Fifers making the transition to self-employment and setting up their own businesses as part of achieving the objectives set out in the Fife Economic Strategy. New businesses create new opportunities within the region in terms of employment as well as often bringing new and innovative goods and services to the market, all of which helps to build a stronger Fife economy.
“Alongside our partnership organisations, Fife Council has committed to these new businesses, and Fife’s existing businesses, to make Fife the best place to start up and grow a business. Key to that is listening to what our business customers have to say. That’s why we have set up a new online survey group called Fife Business Voice which seeks to gain views on Fife Council’s business related services in order to identify areas of improvement. I would really like to encourage every business in Fife to sign up and take part in this forum so that we can improve the way in which we support the business community.
“Furthermore, Fife Council’s Economic Development team and Business Gateway Fife services offer a range of businesses start-up advice, workshops and continued support for businesses to sustain and grow.”
