Additional social care staff will be on duty across the Kingdom this winter.
Fife Council, which must save £77 million over the next three years, says the colder months will prove financially challenging due to an increase in demand for services.
Family, friends and neighbours are being urged to look out for older people as temperatures plumment.
Sandy Riddell Director of Health & Social Care said:
"Social care and health workers are committed to making sure services are available 24/7, 365 days a year. But they recognise that over the winter months, older and vulnerable people face greater challenges. Although this places greater demand on their services staff are ready to make a real difference to people’s lives at this time of the year.
"Everyone working in health and social care, the police, volunteers and families are working more closely together to provide services and support, particularly to those living in remote areas.
He added: "Keeping critical services running over the Christmas and New Year period is vital. In addition to the emergency out of hours service provided 24/7 for the public, additional staffing arrangements are in place to support colleagues and partners on the front line."
