Work is set to begin on the extension of the skate park at Wallsgreen Park in Cardenden.
Fife Council representatives recently visited the park to discuss the programme of work which is expected to be completed by September.
Area Committte Chair, Councillor Willie Clarke explained: “This skate park is formed from pre-cast concrete and has limited scope. There has been a keen interest in extending it and adding more equipment and lighting. This will undoubtedly make it more attractive and demanding for skaters of all ages.
“I’m delighted that funding from the Council’s area budget is contributing towards such a worthwhile project that has been really driven by the local skaters. Their input to the design has been invaluable and it was a great opportunity for them to help shape improvements in their local area. I hope they continue to be involved in this sort of positive work that benefits us all.”
Executive Committee member Councillor Mark Hood added: “Improving access to sport and physical activity opportunities is a big priority for the Council. Locally we have a strong skating community and are really seeing the plan for improving skate parks in the Cowdenbeath area develop. The work beginning here at Wallsgreen Park is an important step in these developments. I really look forward to seeing the designs these young people helped to shape become a reality for them to enjoy.”
Local skater Greg Shand said: “I can’t believe it’s finally starting! We have been working on getting a skate park for a good few years now. We were involved in the plans and drawings for the new park which look great! We’re also getting to meet the builders on a weekly basis to keep us updated with the progress.”
