Six Fife pie makers in running for worlds best pie crown

Six pie makers and bakers in Fife are fighting it out to see who has the flakiest pastry and crispiest crust in the world.

They'll find out whose come out on top next month at the World Championship Scotch Pie Awards, having all made the shortlist.

Baynes in Lochgelly, Fisher and Donaldson in Cupar, Stephens in Dunfermline, Stuarts in Leven, Tom Courts in Burntisland and W F Stark in Buckhaven will find out their fate on January 16.

The ceremony in Cumbernauld will be hosted by Carol Smillie.

Their tasty treats were some of 500 pies from 78 stores being judged in Dunfermline last month.

Each pie was judged on taste, touch, appearance and smell.

They can win any of nine categories: apple pie, football pie, sausage roll, bridie and steak pie, hot savoury, haggis savoury, macaroni pie, vegetarian savoury and the overall award.
