A Fife councillor is calling for better maintenance of a key cycle route.
A senior Liberal Democrat councillor has called for better maintenance of a key cycle route, and recognition that cycling is a daily means of transport for many, rather than just an optional recreational activity.
Speaking after reports of a second mishap this winter on the much-used path between St Andrews and Guardbridge, Tay Bridgehead member Cllr Tim Brett said,
"It is important to realise that for many Fifers, cycling is how they get to work, and therefore paths should be properly maintained and hazards removed, just as on roads.
"This winter one constituent hit the verge and fell off his bike because he was dazzled by headlights, the warning reflective lines from 10 years ago having been allowed to wear away in places.
"More recently, another cyclist hit a metal access cover protruding from the surface near Edenside, and burst a tyre; I should add that such hazards had already been drawn to Fife Council’s attention."
