The Scottish Government is being praised for its pioneering Getting it Right For Every Child (GIRFEC) strategy which supports young people and children in care to achieve positive outcomes in adulthood. Including education and employment.
The Scottish Government's "Getting it right for every child" (GIRFEC) strategy will lead to better outcomes in adulthood for the 950 children in care in Fife.
The Centre for Excellence for Looked after Children In Scotland claim GIRFEC is helping to tackle some of the difficulties these children have as a result of being accommodated.
Young people can struggle to access further education and employment. In addition they can have a number of psychological difficulties as a result of being removed from home.
Social Work planning and care placements that provide children with security and stability are key to GIRFEC.
However, in Fife there are currently over 800 children seeking foster parents.
GIRFEC sets out three priority areas of work:
· Early engagement
· Early permanence
· Improving the quality of care
The strategy supports the importance of intervention as early as possible, particularly for children living on the edges of care.
