A booking system for Fife's recycling centres will remain in place over the summer months.
Councillors have agreed to retain the existing set-up - which was brought in last year to allow for social distancing during the pandemic.
But the position will be reviewed again in September, as Covid-19 restrictions ease, with a commitment to eventually move back to the drop-in system that was previously in place.
The move comes despite more than 3,500 people signing a petition against any extension of the existing system, amid claims it is inconvenient for people and leads to flytipping.
Council officials claimed a survey of users showed the majority of people were in favour of keeping it, and that it was essential for keeping workers and members of the public safe.
They said there was no direct evidence showing a rise in flytipping was linked to the booking system - but also said there was nothing to disprove this theory.
