Public Trains 'Could Ease Longannet Loss'

Kincardine could be regenerated by reopening train services to the area, that's according to a local MP.

That's the idea of Dunfermline and West Fife representative Thomas Docherty as Longannet Power station prepares to close one year from now.

The facility's closure will affect at least 270 local jobs, and an estimated 1,000 through the supply chain.

Rail services to Alloa and Stirling were reopened in 2008 for transporting coal, at a cost of around £1 million.

Switching services to allow for passengers would be possible because the line would have more capacity due to the power station's closure.
