Kirkcaldy Post Office could be in line for a new location and longer opening hours.
The Post Office is proposing to move it to a modern open-plan main-style branch with extended opening hours, 350 metres from its current site.
It follows uncertainty over the branch's future after the closure of the Kirkcaldy Tesco earlier this year.
Customers and interested parties are invited to give their comments on the move in a six-week public consultation.
As part of Post Office plans to modernise the network and extend the service hours for customers, the new Kirkcaldy Post Office would have five serving positions.
Two would be new style open-plan positions, two would be screened and the other would be an open-plan Post Office serving point at the shop’s retail counter that would be open for most Post Office transactions throughout shop opening hours.
The proposed move is part of major modernisation programme across the Post Office network designed to make it easier for customers to do business, through longer opening hours and modern open plan environments.
Simon Drinkwater Regional Manager: “We understand how important having a Post Office is to residents in Kirkcaldy and we are confident that this new modern Post Office service will meet the needs of the local community and secure services for the future.
“This modernisation is part of a major investment programme, the largest in the history of the Post Office and marks a commitment to a no more branch closures programmes.”
The proposed new location for the branch is 216 High Street. Should the move go ahead, the branch will open from 8:30am to 6pm Monday to Friday; 9am to 5:30pm on Saturday and from 11am to 4pm on Sunday. This would be 15 hours more than are currently offered.
