Schoolchildren and police are working together to reduce dangerous driving near a Leven school.
A group of Parkhill Primary pupils have formed a taskforce to proactively address parking issues, traffic build up, and other dangers.
A "Pop-Up Cop", a pretend policeman to deter speeding motorists, is being used outside the school.alongside speed cameras.
Community Ward Constables Lorraine King and Gordon Latto praised the aims of the action group.
PC King said: “We are very keen to work alongside the pupils at our local primary schools to achieve better road safety and the work being done by the Parkhill Travel Group is commendable. “
We hope the ‘Pop Up Cop’ when deployed outside local schools will have the same visual impact on drivers and slow them down.”
Mr Andrew Morrison, the teacher supporting the pupils, said: “Promoting safe walking from nearby parking areas will hopefully mean that there is less traffic outside our school. “It will also promote health and wellbeing for the children.
“Our Action Plan, championed by the pupils, will include; scoping safe routes to school from nearby car parks, the potential development of a new safe crossing outside the school and working in partnership with Fife Council, Police Scotland and parents to reduce parking and speeding issues.
“I hope to have our travel and Traffic Management Plan available to parents, police and online in the near future.”
