A man has appeared in court accused of abducting a pensioner and holding her against her will at her home with intent to rape her during a four-hour ordeal.
Simon Robert John Johnston appeared at Kirkcaldy Sheriff Court after he was arrested over the incident, which occurred on Saturday in the Templehall area of the Fife town.
Johnston, 38, of Kirkcaldy, is accused of abducting the woman in her 60s during the alleged attack.
The petition he faces alleges further charges of assault with intent to rape and attempting to pervert the course of justice.
Johnston made no plea or declaration during the brief private hearing.
The case was continued for further examination and he was remanded in custody meantime.
Johnston is expected to appear in court again next week.
The woman was going into her home in Harris Drive in the Templehall area of Kirkcaldy, Fife at 10am on Saturday.
She was followed into her house by a man who assaulted and threatened her for four hours.
Police described the attack as a "terrifying ordeal" for the woman.
They said the woman was entering her home when she was followed her into the property, where she was then assaulted and threatened.
The man is said to have then left the property after approximately four hours.
Detective Inspector Charles Duncan, of Kirkcaldy CID, said: "I would like to thank the public for their positive response during the last 48 hours.
"Whilst this was an isolated incident, officers will continue to be in the Harris Drive area to offer support and reassurance to the local community."
