Police will be targeting drinkers and alcohol related crime across the Kingdom over the coming months.
Operation Tusker is a spring and summer initiative. Officers say they see a spike in domestic violence, minor assaults and disorder during the warmer months.
Police Scotland says the scheme helped with an overall reduction in recorded crime, which was down 13.8% last year compared to 2013.
Officers say Operation Tusker 2015 will seek to:
Reduce violent crime, including alcohol-related violence
Reduce incidents of disorder
Increase detection of violent crime offenders, including those who commit domestic abuse & hate crime
Reduce antisocial behaviour
Conduct robust inspections and management of licensed premises
Superintendent Douglas Milton said: “Operation Tusker will see an increase in the number of local patrols, including strict enforcement of licensed premises, bail conditions and those sought on court warrants. Key areas have been identified through analysis of crime trends and based on information provided by members of the public.
“Officers will be providing updates and messages via their divisional and local Twitter pages. We would request that any member of the public with information or who are worried about issues in their community to get in touch with their local community officers.”
