It's claimed existing Scottish oil and gas staff could find new work helping to create a North Sea energy grid.
The European Commission's confirmed it would push for such a project, which would connect Scotland to other European countries.
It comes after yesterday's UK Budget announcement that Petroleum Tax Revenue and supplementary charges for oil companies will be cut in order to address a crisis in the sector.
