A new club for people affected by alcohol and substance use opens in Kirkcaldy this month.

The 191 club is being run by the Kirkcaldy YMCA Gallatown Hub, along with Fife Alcohol Support Service (FASS) and the Fife Health and Social Care Partnership’s Alcohol and Drug Partnership (ADP).

The club will run every Thursday from 11am until 1pm at the Kirkcaldy Free Church from 27 June.

It offers a warm place and refreshments, as well as a range of ways for visitors to access help - from informal support to take home Naloxone Kits and bloodborne virus testing kits.

Elizabeth Butters, from the Partnership’s ADP, explained: “We want to offer people experiencing issues with substance or alcohol use, including family members a safe, friendly and welcoming place to have a bite to eat, a hot drink and a bit of company without stigma or judgement.

“Knowing who to turn to is a vital step to getting the support you need and so all three agencies have come together to offer services or just something to eat for anyone who might need us.

“This approach has already worked well in other areas of Fife and we hope that the community will support us and services will approach us to be a part of this too."
