Longer Life In Fife

Life expectancy has risen, but is still below average in some parts of Fife

The average life expectancy in Fife is above the Scottish average.

Men are living for 77.7 years, while for women in it's 81.5, according to figures released today.

But lives are shorter in some deprived areas of the Kingdom - in Kirkcaldy and Levenmouth both men and women are living for around a year shorter than their counterparts in North East Fife.

Life expectancy is now 77.1 years for men and 81.1 years for women in Scotland.

Registrar General for Scotland Tim Ellis said:

"This report shows that life expectancy continues to vary widely across Scotland.

"Life expectancy for men is highest in East Dunbartonshire and lowest in Glasgow City, while for women it is highest in East Dunbartonshire and lowest in West Dunbartonshire. People living in rural areas, in general, live longer than those in more urban areas."
