Children in Levenmouth are getting a say in naming their new high school.
Pupils of the new merger between Buckhaven and Kirkland, and catchment primaries, will cast their votes on five options for the secondary.
The potential names have been put forward by members of the community following a widespread consultation.
The New School Liaison Group put together the shortlist of suggestions at their meeting this week. It is comprised of parents, carers, local councillors and representatives of various community groups.
Members received more than 100 submissions, which was whittled down to a shortlist of five.
They are:
- Levenmouth Academy
- Levenmouth High School
- Methilhaven High School
- East Fife High School
- Bayview High School
Ballot papers have been produced and voting will begin in all of the local schools from 28th May.
Local councillors will have the final say on the vote, but are expected to take the results into consideration.
Ronnie Ross, Headteacher of Kirkland High School and Interim Head of the new secondary school, said: “The naming of the new school has been a real community activity and everyone has been given a chance to have a say in this momentous decision.
“The process has been open, fair and transparent and indeed an example of best practice where local people have been fully encouraged to get involved and to have their voices heard.
“The New School Liaison Group and the team from Community Learning and Development should be commended for the way in which the process has been planned, agreed and undertaken.”
Once all the pupils have voted the count will take place in a neutral venue with all the arrangements we see for local, national and general elections.
The results will be announced following the Local Area Group Meeting on Wednesday 1st of July.
