Drivers using the Queensferry Crossing have been given a boost ahead of this winter.
Transport chiefs say ice sensors - which they hope will prevent a closure of the structure - will be installed "shortly".
It comes after eight cars were damaged by falling ice from the structure in February.
Motorists faced lengthy diversions as the bridge was closed for several days while the country was battered with freezing conditions.
It later emerged that engineers had been aware of the risk of ice forming on the bridge during its construction, but chose to use other methods like monitoring the conditions to ensure there were no issues.
However, there have been two instances where vehicles have been damaged by falling ice since it opened - prompting further work.
A Transport Scotland spokesman said: "Ice sensor works are expected to be complete before this winter.
"Designs for ice sensor installation were finalised during lockdown and installation of sensors is due to be completed shortly."
