A report recommending the reopening of the Thornton to Leven train line has been green-lit by Fife Council.
That means it can now progress to the next stage, where it'll be examined by Transport Scotland.
They're likely to focus on the cost of reinstating the Levenmouth rail link.
The area is the largest-populated in Scotland without direct acess to a train line. Campaigners say running passenger and freight trains would give the area a much-needed economic boost.
Eugene Clarke, Chair of Levenmouth Rail Campaign said: "It’s excellent to see that Fife Council have lent their full support to the STAG recommendations.
"Clearly our ambition is to have the line re-opened and any actions that will make this happen are to be welcomed. We hope that the unanimity of purpose among all parties is sustained so that our case continues to be pressed rigorously and effectively."
