Human remains found in Riverside Park in Glenrothes are confirmed to have belonged to missing man Wayne Fleming.
The 39-year-old, known locally as Bagsy, had been the subject of an extensive missing persons inquiry and was last seen near his home in Glenrothes in March.
Detective Sergeant Sean Ferrier of Police Scotland said: “We have now been able to identify the remains found in Glenrothes on Tuesday (Aug 4) as Wayne Fleming.
“Officers have been in contact with Mr Fleming’s family since the discovery of the remains and we continue to offer our support to them during this very sad time.
“We have also informed the families of other local missing men from the Glenrothes area to make them aware of this development.”
Police are treating the death as unexplained at this stage pending the outcome of ongoing enquiries. Mr Fleming’s family have requested that they be left alone to grieve in private at this difficult time.
