A former Labour district council leader has come out in support for an SNP candidate.
Wilma Grant previously served as Labour leader of Kirkcaldy District Council.
She's publically endorsed Peter Grant and the SNP for the forthcoming general election campaign.
Wilma Grant said: “I have in the past voted labour & been a card carrying member of the Labour Party.
"Till now. I'm not listening to the fabrications, fear tactics & quite frankly some lies in order to attract my vote. I'm still the same person with the same ideals. Unfortunately I no longer think the Labour Party share those ideals. I am voting for Peter Grant, SNP.”
Peter Grant said he is "delighted" to have the support of Wilma Grant and Fiona Purdon’s public backing of his campaign.
He said: "They are high profile ex-Labour members that are voting for the SNP and supporting my campaign because they recognise that the Labour Party no longer stands for working people.
"They campaigned hand in hand with the Tories in the referendum and have signed up to Tory spending cuts if elected in May. Right across the constituency the message is clear that Labour voters are coming to the SNP in their droves because they see that the only SNP will stand up to Tory and Labour austerity cuts and make Westminster work for Scotland."
"Personal attack"
Melanie Ward, Scottish Labour Parliamentary Candidate for Glenrothes and Central Fife said:
"Wilma Grant left the Labour Party more than five years ago.
"It's regrettable that she has chosen to make vicious personal attacks on me at this point.
"People know the real choice on 7 May is between a Labour government and five more years of the Tories.
"Only a vote for Labour will deliver a Labour government with an £8 minimum wage and a ban on exploitative zero hours contracts."
Scottish Liberal Democrat Parliamentary Candidate Jane Ann Liston said it was more a matter for Labour to answer.
She added: "It is perhaps noting, though, that Kirkcaldy District Council ceased to exist 19 years ago, and many things have changed in that time."
It shows sadly that Labour unity is floundering, which is a pity because we need a healthy counter to the rise in Scottish radical nationalism.
The only party that is consistently against this is the Unionists. The Tories stand up for keeping the UK together & is the only one with a responsible fiscal program.
Not just Scotland but for all the souls in the UK.
