Future Of Longannet

A Fife MSP says the UK government must go further to find out why Longannet Power Station pays more to connect to the National Grid than others.

There are fears the station could shut prior to 2020 because its owner, Scottish Power, is struggling to pay.

However, there's hope for workers in Fife and Peterhead after the National Grid admitted a back-up system must be in place to avoid power failures.

David Torrance also wants Longannet bosses to explore the idea of carbon capture storage, insisting it could extend the station's life.

Environmentalists want Scotland to use more wind, wave and tidal power to cut emissions levels.
