The Conservatives on Fife Council has branded plans for a citizen's basic income pilot scheme in Scotland as 'pointless'.

Tory councillors on the local authority also think the proposals are 'unworkable' and are not affordable.

Last week, a report said piloting such a scheme was 'desirable', amid challenges over its delivery.

The council worked on it with its counterparts Edinburgh, Glasgow and North Ayrshire, alongside NHS Health Scotland and the Improvement Service.

Councillors in the Kingdom are expected to discuss the policy on Thursday, when the pilot could be endorsed.

The council's Labour and SNP co-leaders have spoken favourably about the idea.

But the Deputy Leader of the Tories in Fife has questioned how the scheme will be funded.

Councillor Tony Miklinski is also concerned major tax rises would be needed to pay for it:
