A Fife MSP is telling Kingdom FM News that Scotland should welcome Hong Kong residents amid concerns over their diminishing freedoms.
Murdo Fraser of the Scottish Conservatives believes there is an obligation to protect them where possible.
It's after new security legislation was passed in the region recently, which China claims will restore order to Hong Kong following recent protests.
But there are worries the law will affect freedom of expression there.
Mr Fraser wants people from Hong Kong to consider coming to live north of the border.
He says they have a strong affinity to Britain, speak English, work hard, are entrepreneurial and adds they will be an asset to Scotland.
The Scottish Government says the decision over the implementation of the new security law in Hong Kong is of 'deep concern' and adds it will 'irreversibly diminish' the freedoms and rights of the people of Hong Kong.
A spokesperson for the government said: "We have indicated our support for the UK Government’s commitment to provide a bespoke pathway to citizenship for British National Overseas passport holders and their dependants.
"Scotland is open to people from all over the world and those who decide to come to Scotland from Hong Kong and elsewhere will be welcomed for the positive contribution they bring to our communities, economy and society."
