Fife MP says holiday plans of constituents being 'thrown into chaos' amid passport delays

A Fife MP says his constituents are having their holiday plans "thrown into chaos" amid passport delays.

Douglas Chapman's office has been helping people who sent their passport off for renewal weeks in advance of their holiday, only for it to arrive too late.

The Dunfermline and West Fife Westminster representative says his office has recently been dealing with "up to 30 cases" and the numbers he is providing support to are increasing.

Her Majesty's Passport Office says while there is no backlog in passport processing due to the coronavirus pandemic, it's seeing "unprecedented demand" as more than 5 million people delayed applying for a passport due to international travel restrictions.

Mr Chapman is urging anyone who needs a passport to apply for one as early as possible:
