Keep adequate supplies in your car, and stay aware of changing weather.
That is the advice for drivers from FIfe Council as road conditions worsen in poorer winter weather.
This year, they are offering a text alert system for parents to keep them aware of school closures. The council is also advising people to stay tuned to their local radio station for weather and road closure updates.
Executive Spokesperson for Environment and Transportation, Cllr Pat Callaghan explained: "Fife Council is committed to keeping Fife moving despite the weather. Staff will be working 24 hours a day, seven days a week to make sure this happens.
"There are 55 vehicles in our winter fleet ready to treat Fife’s roads, as well as 42 mini-tractors to clear and grit footpaths. When weather is extremely bad, we have access to up to 1000 personnel and we also have arrangements for external resources, plant and equipment.
"To make sure we’re not caught short, we start getting ready for the winter during the summer. In the last few months we’ve taken delivery of 17,000 tonnes of salt, this takes our salt stocks up to 36,000 tonnes. Taking these steps now, assures a safer winter on Fife’s roads."
