Council bids to bridge the budget gap

Fife Council is cutting down on its vehicle use as part of plans to bridge the budget gap.

It has already reduced its vehicle numbers by 260 and is looking to keep them on the road for an extra two to four years. The reductions come as part of the plan to cut £100 million from the region's budget within the next 4 years. Transport spokesman Pat Callaghan says overtime pay and higher quality maintenance isn't more expensive than the old way:
