An investigation has been launched after a cat was shot in the head in Fife.
Vets had to remove an airgun pellet from between Blackie's eyes after he was discovered in Comrie on Thursday.
He's currently recovering at the SSPCA's rehoming centre in Balerno, officers say he's lucky to be alive.
Scottish SPCA Senior Inspector John Chisholm said: “Blackie was very lucky to have come away relatively unscathed from this attack.
“If the pellet had hit Blackie a centimetre to the left or right it could have resulted in brain damage or even death.
“Not only was this a very serious and cruel act, it was also an offence which can be punished by a prison sentence and a fine of up to £20,000.
“Unfortunately our enquiries so far have not resulted in any leads so we are now asking anyone with information about this incident to search their conscience and contact our animal helpline or the police.
“In the meantime, we would warn cat owners in the Comrie area to be vigilant.
“Blackie is not microchipped and he wasn’t wearing a collar so we are hoping his owner will come forward following our appeal.
“Anyone who thinks it is acceptable to use an airgun in this way has no consideration for the welfare of others and should not be in possession of such a dangerous weapon.
Anyone with information is being urged to contact the Scottish SPCA animal helpline on 03000 999 999.
