Attempted Theft Causes Power Plant Explosion

Police in Fife are appealing for information after an attempted theft of copper cable caused a small explosion at the Westfield Power Plant near Cardenden.

The incident happened around 10pm on Saturday 7th March 2015.

The attempted theft resulted in live cables exploding, causing damage to the tools that were used by the suspect and possible injury to this individual.

Officers are now urging anyone who can assist with their enquiries to come forward.

Glenrothes Community Sergeant Kenny Greig, of Police Scotland, said: “We are keen to trace the person responsible for this crime but we are also concerned for that person’s health as they may have sustained an injury trying to cut the live cables.

“I would urge anybody who is involved to urgently seek medical attention and put their health before fear of being caught.

“I would also advise anyone thinking of committing a similar crime to think again as it is simply not worth the risk.”

Anyone with information can contact Police Scotland on 101 or anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
