Scots who give up their time to celebrate or care for important elements of the country's history could be up for an award.
The Scottish Heritage Angels celebrate volunteers who rebuild, restore or record the heritage of this country. Funded by the Andrew Lloyd Webber Foundation, and delivered via a partnership which brings together four Scottish heritage bodies, the awards will recognise the significant role volunteers have in helping to better understand, appreciate and protect Scotland’s heritage and history for current and future generations.
Nominations are being sought by the end of this month, with a ceremonyu being held in September.
There are five Scottish Heritage Angel Awards categories and entries are still being welcomed from projects, both big and small, and the ‘Heritage Angels’ behind them for:
- Investigating and Recording
- Caring and Protecting
- Sharing and Celebrating
- Capacity Building
- Lifetime Contribution to the Historic Environment
John Pelan, Director of the Scottish Civic Trust, said: "The countdown is on for individual volunteers and community groups alike to enter the first ever Scottish Heritage Angel Awards. With entries due to close on the 30th June, I’d encourage people to take part and submit their application for the chance to be named a ‘Heritage Angel’.
"The awards offer the opportunity to celebrate those who make great efforts towards caring for our rich and diverse historic environment and I look forward to discovering more about the variety of volunteer-led heritage projects that are being undertaken across the length and breadth of the country."
